Simon Briars

Your instructor’s name is Simon. Simon has taught English as a Second Language since 2011 and specialises in expanding his students’ vocabulary and improving their pronunciation. Simon is also an English grammar expert and is passionate about explaining grammar in a way that is accessible, interesting and useful. Simon currently teaches English for Academic Purposes at two of the UK’s top universities and has recently started to mentor other tutors in his role as Lead Academic English Tutor.

Outside of his professional life Simon enjoys travelling and has travelled extensively in Southeast Asia and Southern Africa. He visited China in 2005 and plans on revisiting again very soon.

In his opinion the best thing about travelling is meeting fascinating people who may have different beliefs cultural practices and traditions in addition to speaking a different language. However, Simon is intrigued by these differences rather than afraid of them!

Simon enjoys exchanging ideas and stories with the people he meets, especially over food and a beer, and over the years he has learned that no matter who we are or where we come from that we are all special but not that dissimilar.

Almost everybody likes to laugh, has a hobby they are interested in and has people who are special to them in their lives who they love. Simon enjoys finding out about what makes the people he meets happy.
